Gifts of tuition aid benefit students directly as they underwrite a portion of the scholarships allocated to 167 students in grades 7 – 12 for the current school year.

Fast Facts on Tuition Aid

  • All tuition aid awards are need-based; families must complete an extensive application.
  • Most families with a gross income of $150,000 or less qualify for some tuition aid.
  • The average tuition aid award for 2020-21 at JBS is $22,750. Our average award is 60% higher than the average for all independent schools in St. Louis ($14,240).
  • For the 2020-21 school year, we awarded $3.8 million in tuition aid to 167 students; 16% of our operating budget.
  • 26% of Burroughs students receive some form of tuition aid which is consistent with the national average among all independent schools in the United States.
